Saturday April 23rd was the 50th Lampeter Stallion Show, cooler and overcast. A large crowd and some stunning entries as always. Welsh Cob Shop was there for the first time and had a busy and successful day. I heard some results over the tanoy but was the wrong end of the show to see much in hand stuff! Mili Peel's website www.welshwelshcobs.com as always has excellent pictures and details. Here are pictures from the local papers!
The commemorative Catalogue and Slate Coasters are really nice to have and to keep, if anyone did'nt get either of these both are available for £5 each + £2.50 p&p (up to three items) Please send a cheque made out to the Lampeter Stallion Show and send it, together with your name and address to: LOUISE DAVIES, MAESIFAN, BETWS IFAN, NEWCASTLE EMLYN, CARMARTHENSHIRE, SA38 9QL

Saturday April 9th I was honoured to Judge at the Clwyd assoc. WPCS Stallion & Youngstock Show. A horrendous journey meant I arrived late, for which I apologise (landslide, detours British signposting always a mystery!!etc).
I had some lovely animals to judge and at times it was very hard to decide between first & second as I felt they were very close in merit. An early and probably a first show for alot the Cobs they all behaved perfectly and (mostly) did what was asked of them. My favorite has to be the lovely Sec C 3 year old Filly that went on to be Reserve Supreme Champion. I hope to see more of her! Reserve to her in the C Championship was a very typy C Stallion, beautifully presented he smelt lovely too! Sec Ds were very strong  with the top two or three in each class being hard to seperate.  Champion & Reserve went to the two Stallions.Well done to you all and I hope you have an enjoyable season ahead. I hated the wind that blew accross the show field, very irritating!! A pleasant lunch & chat with the other judges and the wonderful workers of the Show, whilst watching the Supreme Championships. I then had an even more horrendous journey home, the 150 miles taking 4 hours!

August's Lampeter Agricultural Show was disappointingly cold, wet and windy. Neighbour Nicola Davies was Champion Section D with her lovely bay Maesmynach filly. Lamri Esther won the Sec C foal class- (I made her halter!) So all though it was a quietish day for the stall I had a good view of the main ring and watched Ponies and Cobs in between my customers!

I recently received a you tube link from Ddraig333 (Thankyou!) of AberaeronFestival ofWelsh Ponies & Cobs...Click HERE to View.
Sunday August 8th was perfect weather for the Annual Festival of Welsh Ponies and Cobs at Aberaeron (the Harbour town in the heart of Cob Country) Very well attended!
My trade stand was very well supported - so good to meet old & new customers.

Derwen Royal ExpressDerwen Railway ExpressSadly, I heard of the recent passing of Derwen Railway Express & Royal Express both a ripe old age.

The Royal Welsh Show is over once more, some very worthy winners with the two yearlings Filly & Colt being youngstock Champion & Reserve. The gorgeous Avonvally Great Britain was the very worthy winner of the Junior Stallion Class, Mattie Attrell (Jn)  ably showing Geler Stud's stunning Geler Sparc winning the Male Championship and the beautiful, charismatic Haighmoor Glain winning the Prince of Wales Cup & the Tom & Sprightly for a very wet but delighted Julie Evans....very well done!
The Welsh Cob Shop Banner  was (after a few hiccups) in the Main Ring /Collecting Ring for the whole duration of the Royal Welsh Show, so everyone showing a Welsh Pony or Cob would have passed it, - and it was at times very visible on television! - Advert in the Show Catologue too..
Did my sponsorship presentation on Monday to a very deserving Native type Coloured Cob (a stunning Skewbald)  Broken Arrow-owned, produced and shown by Heather Linfield

Dimbeth SionTymor PeleI heard of the very sad and untimely passing of the prolific Stallion Tymor Pele aged only 16, an enormous loss to the breed, he will be greatly missed... Also that of the Great sire & Ridden, Driven, In Hand Royal Welsh Winner
Dimbeth Sion although in his late 20s a sad loss indeed...

Artist, Picture framer gilder friend Jane Billington is producing some lovely images of Welsh Ponies & Cobs of the past. here as an example is the Welsh Cob Stallion Rhysted Meredith, from 30 years ago (ish).

It was great to meet Australian customers Helen Dohan and her friend Judy, in May, I made a tempory 'Shop' for them (from 2011 there will be a proper shop here at the Mill!) and they found plenty to take back to Australia, I also led them to the local Llanybydder Horse Fair and they had a good look around the Mart and various stalls! Hope you both had a good trip back with all your goods, and I have made the foal halter as you suggested Helen - a very good idea!
Barley Saturday this year was May the 1st, two weeks after Lampeter Stallion Show (usually 1 week after) and clashed with Glanusk.
There was a programme on S4C all in Welsh of course some lovely shots of Gellifach Llewellyn being shampooed and shown, also Danaway Hooch and our local feed merchant chap with the now 3 times Champion 'Tremymor Sportsman' (Sec C).  Also the other breeds, hairy coloureds, Shires, Shetlands, Donkeys, all the Vintage stuff
Below are the Cambrian News (local paper) pictures from 2010.

April  22nd was Lampeter Stallion Show at Talsarn, unusually a lovely sunny day, (a little chilly wind) & crowded enough not to be a problem. Menai Stud took the Championship and also topped the Nomination Auction. Judge Phillipa Owens (Cascob) did an excellent job with so many stunning Welsh Section Ds.
I was very touched and honoured Autumn 2009 to have been given by Dr Wynne Davies his entire collection of VHS tapes (about 80) of Ponies and Cobs all over the world spanning the last 30 years or so! It takes some sorting out and the first suitable one to be made available on DVD is the Derwen Stud Open Day 1990. There will be a lot more to come.....but a task for winter evenings!
